Statistics
show that one in twenty used cars today aren't recycled properly
and unfortunately are allowed to return to nature, thus heavily
contributing to the destruction of our environment.
The
Recycle Your Autos Team works hard toward supporting a nationwide
effort to help our environment and to green America by cleaning
up industrial auto waste. We can help you play your part in the
revitalization of our environment by recycling
with very little time and effort required on your behalf. Whether
you live in a busy urban area or rural setting, it is imperative
that you do your part.
Recycling
an old vehicle helps to avoid costly problems with
unsightly clutter. For example, US taxpayers are charged $500 million
every year just to clear the litter along state highways.
What is even more important, recycling
your old car eliminates the risk of polluting the earth, water and
air pollution with potentially dangerous elements as they break
down and contaminate our environment.
Recycling
processes used materials into new products in order to
prevent the waste of potentially useful materials.
It reduces the consumption of fresh and raw materials.
Recycling
helps to reduce energy usage.
Scrapping
your old car reduces air pollution (from incineration)
and water pollution (from landfills) by reducing the need
for "conventional" waste disposal and lower greenhouse gas
emissions.
Some
of the recyclable car materials include paper,
metal, plastic, textiles, electronics, rubber, etc.
Here is a quick rundown of some vehicle components and the benefits of recycling your old car.
Auto Bodies
Every year, the equivalent of 13 million new automobiles can be made with the number of cars and trucks that are recycled. Six recycled cars yields enough steel to construct a new steel frame house.
Using our service is a great solution to getting rid of your vehicle.
Your car will go to a facility with the means to properly recycle
the scrap into reusable steel!
Car Batteries
Automotive
batteries are full of hazardous waste. With
improper disposal and recycling, they pose a serious health and
environmental risk.
When recycled, materials such as Plastic, Rubber and
Lead are effectively separated from each battery
and used in other applications. Caustic and poisonous battery acid
is neutralized, cleaned and safely released into the water supply.
Car Fluids
It has been estimated that one gallon of motor oil can contaminate one million gallons of water. So, capturing all the oil from a car’s engine is of utmost importance. Antifreeze, another major component in automobiles, can kill aquatic life once it breaks down.
High levels of heavy metals including lead
(which are found in used automotive fluids) can cause nervous system
damage to humans and animals.
Recycling prevents
these hazards from happening.
Other automotive chemicals, including transmission fluid, power steering fluid brake fluid and windshield washer fluid can all be reconditioned to become a useful new product. For instance, reclaimed motor oil can be used in power plants or in the petroleum industry.
Tires
In
2004, roughly 75% of the tires that went to landfills in
California were diverted from burial. The remaining tires,
however, contributed unnecessarily to landfills. Here, they
harbor disease and eventually break down into hazardous chemicals
that potentially seeps into our water supply. When properly
recycled, however, they go through what is known as Vulcanization.
This is a curing process where sulfur is added to the rubber,
facilitating the chemical breakdown and mechanical shredding of
each tire. The broken-down rubber can then be used by a number
of different industries. Civil Engineering projects may use vulcanized
tires for projects such as erosion control, landscaping,
or used as rubberized asphalt on roads and running tracks. Tires
can also be used for what is known as a tire-derived fuel, which
is a low sulfur, high-heating fuel.
